Los Alamitos combines an inviting small town feel with the conveniences of a larger city. The city offers excellent recreational park facilities, an outstanding police department and dedicated Chamber of Commerce. It has been described as “a little jewel of a city,” and residents agree that is the perfect description.
Los Alamitos is relatively small, covering only about 4.3 square miles in the northwestern part of Orange County. It is conveniently located about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and has a manageable population of just 11,449. This mature and urbanized city is home to about 2,000 businesses that range from light manufacturing to wholesales. Additionally, there are many retail stores and locally-owned restaurants that line the city’s main roads.
Families send their children to schools in the the Los Alamitos Unified School District, which is made up of six elementary schools, two middle schools, one comprehensive high school and one continuation high school. Because they have set such high standards of achievement, the schools have been honored as California Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon Schools. It is for this reason that many families choose to call Los Alamitos home.
The community is very involved and participates in many annual events like Race on the Base, Spring Carnival, a 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, Music and Movies Event Series, Halloween, and the Holiday Bazaar. Given its warm and welcoming ambiance, it’s no wonder that residents love calling Los Alamitos home.
