Garden Grove is a diverse and welcoming community of 172,000 residents. It covers 17.8 square miles and was incorporated in 1956. It prides itself as a vibrantly progressive and growing city, and is located just south of Los Angeles in Orange County. Their motto is “The City of Youth and Ambition,” a motto that residents agree describes them perfectly.
The city is home to four annual cultural festivals including a celebration of the Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic and American heritage. Their famous Strawberry Festival is celebrating 50 years and is the largest community-based Memorial Day celebration in the entire western United States.
With a convenient location less than one mile from Disneyland and just seven miles from Knott’s Berry Farm, Garden Grove is an ideal enclave for families. Just a short nine miles away, local beaches beckon families towards the coast. And for business travelers, John Wayne Airport is just 10 miles away. Garden Grove schools have been ranked as some of the best and safest in the country. The Garden Grove Unified School District has 45 elementary schools, nine junior high schools, and eight high schools. Additionally, there are five community colleges.
Garden Grove offers many services to its community. There is employment assistance, education programs, recreational programs, and family entertainment. The city has seven fire stations and 13 police stations/substations that contribute to the safety of the city. Garden Grove employs over 600 full-time workers and is supported by over 100 community volunteers. Volunteering is something that is central to the culture of Garden Grove. It is home to the most churches and places of worship per capita in all of California and is home to the world-famous Crystal Cathedral.
