The beautiful city of Dana Point was incorporated in 1989 and named after Richard Henry Dana Jr. Dana was a Harvard-trained lawyer, seaman, and author who documented his voyage from Boston around Cape Horn to California. He described then Capistrano Bay, now Dana Point, as “the most romantic spot in California.” The city is bordered by Laguna Niguel, Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente.
And romantic it is. Dana Point is situated along seven miles of prominent coastal bluffs on the Pacific Ocean. Home to 33,429 residents, Dana Point Harbor is the epicenter of the city. The harbor offers slips and moorings for over 2,500 boats, in addition to over 50 specialty shops and restaurants. Many visit the harbor to shop, sport-fish, parasail, and participate in other seaside activities like bicycling.
For families, Dana Point’s school system is outstanding. Students attend schools in the Capistrano Unified School District, including Dana Hills High School, Palisades Elementary School and R.H. Dana Elementary School. Miles of beautiful beaches and 23 parks give Dana Point residents a variety of safe and clean outdoor options.
With over 1,900 hotel rooms, Dana Point is top tourist destination. Located almost equidistant between Los Angeles and San Diego, it provides the perfect base for a vacation. One benefit of living in Dana Point? The ability to enjoy tourist activities and perfect weather throughout the year!
